Power Takeoff

Always read and follow product labels for feeding and sheep safety.
Overview
Power Takeoff is Kalmbach’s textured creep/starter for show lambs up to 90 lbs, but it’s flexible enough for start-to-finish feeding when extra gain and bloom are needed. At 18% protein and 5% fat, it features a quality protein stack unusual in a starter — fish meal and roasted soybeans alongside cracked corn, steam-rolled barley, and crimped oats. The fish meal and roasted soybean combination provides a highly bioavailable amino acid profile for muscle development and wool quality. Includes chelated trace minerals, high Vitamin E (75 IU/lb), and direct-fed microbials.

How Experienced Feeders Actually Use It
Power Takeoff is the go-to base feed for feeders who want a texturized option from the start rather than a pellet creep. The fish meal + roasted soybean protein combination is notably premium for a starter — delivers real amino acid quality not found in most creep/starter feeds. Feeders who want to run one feed start-to-finish often choose Power Takeoff over Show Star for its higher fat content and protein quality. Transition to Show Star or X-Factor as lambs exceed 90 lbs.
Real-World Feeding Rate
- Typical rate: 1 lb/100 lb body weight; split morning and evening feedings
- Introduction timeline: Project start through ~90 lbs, or full program when extra condition is needed

Phase Protocols
Weeks 12–9 | Foundation Phase
Primary use window. Introduce as base ration at project start. High fat (5%) builds early condition.
Weeks 8–6 | Condition Building Phase
Continue or transition to Show Star as lamb passes 90 lbs. For thin lambs needing extra condition, continue Power Takeoff longer.
Weeks 5–3 | Fill & Shaping Phase
For feeders running Power Takeoff start-to-finish: hold rate and adjust supplemental stack for shaping.
Stacking Protocols
Works with the full Formula of Champions supplement stack. Hard Drive or Afterburner adds protein/muscle work; Show & Glow adds coat; Fill ‘Er Up handles fill; Moonshine Cherry adds fat cover if needed.
Budget Alternatives
- Kalmbach Show Star — same line, lower fat (3.5%), standard finisher
- MoorMan’s ShowTec 18 Elite Lamb — comparable protein level; Bovatec instead of Deccox
- Kent Show Lamb Gale Force 18DQ — comparable texturized medicated starter
